On December 1, 1875 the beacon of the Currituck Beach Lighthouse (sometimes called Corolla Lighthouse) filled the remaining "dark spot" on the North Carolina coast between the Cape Henry Light to the north and Bodie Island to the south. To distinguish the Currituck Beach Lighthouse from other regional lighthouses, its exterior was left unpainted and gives today's visitor a sense of the multitude of bricks (approximately one million) used to form the structure.

The Currituck Beach Lighthouse and Museum Shop are open Easter through Thanksgiving (closed Thanksgiving Day), 10 am - 6 pm. Admission is $6 for adults, children 7 and under are free.

The Whalehead Club
Hwy 12 - Corolla

Constructed in the 1920s, the Whalehead Club is an intricate part of Currituck Heritage Park. Situated on 39 acres of sound front property, the public is invited to tour this newly restored "jewel by the sea". Over the years, the the building was used for a variety of purposes, including a private residence, hunt club, housing for the U.S. Coast Guard, a summer school for boys, and headquarters for Atlantic Research, a company that tested solid rocket fuel.

Museum open 10am - 5pm; April - November. Behind-the-scenes tours by reservation only. Cost is $6 adults, children 8 & under free.

US Army Corps of Engineers, Field Research Facility "Duck Pier"
Hwy 12 - North of Duck

Unique facility conducts research on the ocean processes affecting the coast such as storm impacts and beach erosion. Instruments monitor the waves and the beach, while several unusual vehicles, including the 35-foot tall, three-wheeled, CRAB, support the research activities.

Gate opens at 9:30am. Admission is free. 90-minute walking tours offered mid-June through mid-August at 10am Monday - Friday.

The Currituck Club - Hwy 12 Clubhouse Dr, Corolla. This Scottish links-style course is located off the scenic Currituck Sound. Oak trees, sand dunes, and wind add to the difficulty level. The greens are average-sized and undulating, and the contoured fairways are average width. Water hazards come into play on fourteen holes. The signature holes are #7 and #15. Hole #7, a 532-yard, par 5, requires a tee shot up a narrow fairway designed alongside the Currituck Sound, then an approach shot to a small green protected by sand bunkers. Hole #15, a 174-yard, par 3, also features a scenic view of the Currituck Sound, and requires a tee shot over a pond to the green. The green fees indicated are the morning rates.
